TEXT ON BACK COVER

Cardwell's First Law of Sailing Big

You can sail big on a small sailboat far more easily and for much less money than you can sail small on a big sailboat.

This is a book about sailing comfortably on a small sailboat.   It provides small boat sailors and first-time boat buyers with a good introduction to trailer-sailing.  The author shows how cruising on a small but properly equipped boat that can be kept at home and towed to the water can be a satisfying and not very expensive activity for the whole family.

Sailors and would-be boat buyers will learn to evaluate boats in the 22- to 26-foot range, and the equipment and accessories that will enable them to sail big on a small sailboat.  Four popular sailboats, the Catalinas 22 mark II and 250, the MacGregor 26X, and Hunter 240 are featured in detail.  Throughout the book, the emphasis is on careful planning and selection of boat and accessories to get the most enjoyment from the least investment.

This new edition has been updated to include the latest models and a new chapter on buying used boats titled "Sailing Big and Saving Big".

"Jerry Cardwell believes that small trailerable sailboats can take sailors on big adventures.  He believes that with a little imagination and suitable preparation, a small trailerable sailboat can be as much magic as any full-sized cruising boat.  I think he is right . . . This book can resurrect dreams and that's worthwhile."  --  Mid-Gulf Sailing

" . . . Plenty of down-to-earth advice on the types of boats, equipment for the boats, sailing tactics, and how to trailer them to the water." -- Travel Books Worldwide
