TEXT ON BACK COVER

"There are enough tips on fittings and common-sense gadgetry to make the book a worthwhile addition to the reference shelf.  It's the book to have if you think trailer sailing might be for you." -- Offshore

Free yourself from the constraints of high-priced marinas and crowded campgrounds.  Here is all you'll need to get started in the low-cost, high-reward sport of trailer sailing, with advice that will take you from your backyard to that secluded spot just over the horizon.

  • Finding your dream boat
  • Outfitting and setting up
  • Trailers and trailer tactics
  • Elementary and advanced sailing
  • Anchoring
  • Caring for your outboard
  • Sail camping and cruise planning
  • And much more

Landbound by competition for mooring and dock space and skyrocketing marina costs?  Want to get a start in sailing but intimidated by the expense?   Heed Bob Burgess.  A compact car, a trailer hitch, and a small boat are all you'll need.

Here is comprehensive advice to make the whole continent available at 55 miles and hour dead to windward.  Whether you're a new sailor just starting out or an old hand choosing the '90s phenomenon of "down-shifting," this completely revised and updated edition, first published in 1984 and widely acclaimed as the trailer sailor's bible, will chart your whole course.

Handbook of Trailer Sailing burst with detailed information on finding your dream boat, outfitting and setting up, trailers and trailering, elementary and advanced sailing, anchoring, customizing for comfort, sail camping, cruise planning, and much more.  All through the eyes of a lifelong small-boat sailor with a love of the sport and the freedom it brings.

About the Author

Sailor, diver, shark hunter, editor, and author, Robert Burgess began his love affair with small boats as a six-year-old, when he and his father fashioned a rig for a kayak from a wooden clothespole and a bit of stiff canvas.  He's been at it ever since.

A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Burgess now makes his home in the year-round warmth of Chattohoochee, Florida, where he mixes his writing career with regular doses of diving, exploring, and sailing.

His other books include Secret Languages of the Sea and Man: 12,000 Years Under the Sea.
