New Arrival
Both my boat (#384) and her sistership (#385 - a 1999 C250 wing keel) arrived from the Catalina factory in Woodland Hills, California, on the same trailer.  These photos were taken at the Sailboat Shop in Austin on the morning we commissioned the boat (9/2/98).  The mast was being readied in the shop and the lifelines were yet to be installed.  We spent the morning rigging the boat, and the afternoon sailing Lake Travis.

Lorelei's First Bottom Job
Josh at Yacht Harbor prepared the bottom by power washing and applying a wash of muriatic acid.  The boat had been in a wet slip for five or six months without the protection of bottom-paint.  Even my regular brushing of the bottom did not keep it from acquiring a green smile from the algae.  I opted to not apply an epoxy barrier coat as Catalina Yachts  uses vinylester resin in its hull lay up which should provide acceptable blister protection.  If blisters do appear in the future, I might have to apply an epoxy barrier coat.  Josh used a non-sanding primer (which causes the light blue tint in the photos) and then applied two to three coats of VC-17 (blue).  There was a noticeable increase in speed of 1/2 to 1 knot after the VC-17 was applied.

How About A Few Comparisons
Here are a few photos comparing a 1999 C250 water-ballasted centerboard, a 1999 C250 wing-keel, and a 1996 C250  water-ballasted centerboard.

The two photographs above were taken using a Canon "Elf" 370Z and scanned using a Visioneer PaperPort Strobe.  All photos on the linked pages [left] were taken with a Kodak DC210 plus digital camera.
